December 31st-January 7th Chile

We spent about a week in this area exploring the pisco valley.  We stayed in the small town of Gualliguaica for a few nights and met some really amazing people.  A family took us in for their New Years Eve dinner.  We ate lamb and goat while exchanging stories through pictures and our poor Spanish.  We took shots of a pisco coffee drink with the adults.  Everyone had such a good time.  It has been very difficult for me to be away from my family during the holidays so it was very nice to be part of a family for a night.  We interacted with this family throughout the next few days as well.  The kids were happy to kick around a soccer ball and to learn a little English.  We also met Maria.  She was the town lady who knew everything and everyone.  We would often be invited in their homes or given fresh fruit from their gardens.  We also met a couple that owned a kitesurfing hotel down the road.  We spent a night there to freshen up.  The rooms were cubes made out of cement.  We went to Capel, the largest pisco distillery in the area.  We adventured around Vicuña, La Serena, Paihuano, Pisco Elqui, and Horcon.  We also went to the Los Nichos distillery.  It had more history and claimed to be haunted.
