July 16th Folegandros Island, Greece

by - July 20, 2019

Our transportation picked us up at 5:30 AM to drive is to the port.  We took the 3 hour slow ferry to Folegandros Island.  It was massive and had multiple levels.  Maria met us and let us check in when we arrived.  We went and rented ATVs right away.  We drove to Choro, which was the main town on the island.  We walked around for a bit and then drove to Ano Meria to have lunch.  We ate at Irene’s Tavern.  It is a small restaurant run by a grandmother and granddaughter.  We met both.  The grandmother was making homemade pasta while the granddaughter took orders.  We all ordered the fried meatballs with mestata pasta.  We also ordered fava and bread to share.  They were the best meatballs we have ever eaten.  Then we drove to Livadaki Beach.  We had to park the ATVs and hike down to it.  Once we came over the hill and saw the view, we were all in awe.  It was one of the most beautiful sceneries we have seen in the trip.  We jumped in and had an awesome experience snorkeling.  It was super clear and very deep.  You could see all the way to the bottom.  Then was the long and hot walk back yo te hill to the ATVs.  Then we drove to the most northern part of the island.  After that we went back to the Airbnb to relax and shower.  We ate at DAL CAPO Del Porto for dinner.  It was very good and also was the best Greek salad I had in Greece.  It came with capers and peppers.  One thing we have been disappointed about is that they don’t provide the table with olive oil in Greece.  You have to buy it, which seems ridiculous.
